SAINT LEO, Fla. – In the second midweek non-conference game between the Saint Leo baseball team and the Eckerd Tritons within a two-week span, the Green & Gold claimed the victory a 12-8 win at home on Tuesday night. The Lions were propelled by a three-jack third inning.
After the Tritons took a 1-0 lead in the second, Saint Leo registered three homers in the third first by senior
Roberto Odor, followed by freshman
Noah Delgado, and then a two-run jack from senior
Dylan Mass. Junior
Camdin Jansen added another run for the Green & Gold with a double down the left field line as Saint Leo mounted a 5-1 lead.
The Tritons tied the game at 6-6 during the sixth, however, Saint Leo regained the lead after Odor scored on a wild pitch followed by junior
Abrahan Rios knocking in two runs with a single to right field. Senior
Thomas DeBrower registered a sac-fly in the seventh that stretched the Lions edge to 10-6. Eckerd tallied a pair of runs to trim its deficit to 10-8 before senior
Amai Rivera-Martinez shut the door on a possible comeback with a two-run single to right field that gave Saint Leo a 12-8 advantage.
On the mound, freshman
Aiden Smarrito started and pitched 6.0 innings as he struck out two batters and surrendered six runs (five earned) on seven hits. In relief, freshman
Parker Hohnstock tallied a strikeout and junior
Cian Phillips posted two strikeouts.
Saint Leo returns to action on Friday, April 10 as it travels to face Florida Southern in the series-opener at 6 p.m.
