#10 SAINT LEO 20, PALM BEACH ATLANTIC 12
Saint Leo wasted little time getting rolling, striking first on a goal from
Sophia Santella just 1:31 into the game before
Holly Hill doubled the lead 40 seconds later. Palm Beach Atlantic answered twice to trim it to 3-2, but the Lions kept control of the opening quarter behind a fast-paced offense and a dominant draw game.
Sophia Wood scored off a Hill assist, Hill added a free-position goal,
Natalie Jones converted on the player advantage, and
Anna Wood scored twice in the final 6:54 of the frame.
Jana Nuss also found the net during the stretch as Saint Leo built an 8-4 lead after one.
Palm Beach Atlantic opened the second quarter with a goal from Arianna Tribble, but Saint Leo answered quickly when Nuss finished off another Hill assist at the 11:20 mark. The Sailfish kept battling and got within 9-7 after goals from Tribble and Kayden Cilento, yet the Lions again had a response. Jones scored with 5:58 left in the quarter, then
Marina Dean capped the half with a free-position goal in the final minute to send Saint Leo into the break with an 11-7 advantage.
The Lions kept the pressure on in the third. Hill opened the scoring on a player-up chance, and after Palm Beach Atlantic cut the margin to 12-9 with back-to-back goals from Olivia Larges and Annika Limbert, Saint Leo delivered its biggest surge of the afternoon. Nuss scored at 6:37,
Grace DeWitt added a free-position goal at 5:38, and Nuss struck again on another player-up opportunity at 4:12 to push the lead out to 15-9. Palm Beach Atlantic stopped the run with a goal from Larges, but
Sophia Wood answered in the final 21 seconds off Hill's eighth assist of the day to make it 16-10 heading to the fourth.
Saint Leo put the game away in the final quarter. DeWitt scored less than 40 seconds in, and shortly after,
Isabella Gebinine secured her sixth draw control of the afternoon, reaching 100 on the season and becoming just the second freshman in program history to hit the mark.
Briana Bellando then finished off a Hill assist midway through the period, and Hill added her fourth goal of the day following a feed from Nuss, recording her 100th career assist on the play.
Ava Calloway later added a free-position goal for the Lions' final tally, marking her first collegiate goal. Palm Beach Atlantic scored twice in the closing minutes, but the Lions' early cushion and balanced attack were more than enough in a 20-12 conference win.
