SAINT LEO, Fla. — The Saint Leo Lions dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to Lander on Friday at Thomas B. Southard Stadium, falling 10-8 in game one and 5-4 in game two.
In the opener, Saint Leo battled back from an 8-3 deficit in the bottom of the ninth with five runs that was highlighted by a three-run triple by senior
Dylan Mass. Junior
Abrahan Rios tied the game at 8-8 with a groundut-RBI. However, in extra innings, the Baercats tallied a pair of runs in the 10th and secured the win.
On the mound, freshman
Parker Hohnstock started and pitched 7.0 innings. He posted two strikeouts in addition to allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while issuing three walks.
In game two, the Green & Gold claimed a 3-0 lead after an RBI-single by senior
Thomas DeBrower followed by a two-run double by senior
Ryan Crivello. The Bearcats answered with four unanswered runs before senior
Amai Rivera-Martinez tied the game 4-4 with a single to right field to score Mass. However, in the seventh, Lander scored the game sealing run on a wild pitch.
On the mound, junior
Cian Phillips pitched 5.0 innings and posted five strikeouts while allowing four runs (all earned) on seven hits.
The Lions return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 25 as they conclude their series with Lander with a single game starting at 12 p.m.
