SAINT LEO, Fla. – Friday night at Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium, the sixth-ranked Saint Leo University softball team made program history winning its 23rd straight game.
Sydney Cline and
Izzy LaRoche hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning and
Tierney Hocquard improved to 11-1 on the season with a complete game shutout. Saint Leo took down #24 Florida Tech in its SSC series opener, 7-0. The Lions improve to 28-2-1 overall and 13-0 in SSC play, while Florida Tech falls to 24-7-1 overall and 10-2 in SSC action.
Sydney Cline and
Izzy LaRoche went back-to-back with two-out home runs in the opening inning, and
Alexis Barber added a two-run single in the second to stretch the lead to 5-0. The Lions added one run in the fourth on a
Briana Neal sacrifice fly and another in the fifth on a
Maddie Antioco sacrifice fly. LaRoche finished 2-for-2 with a home run, double, RBI, and sacrifice bunt, while Cline went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and a walk. Barber drove in two, and
Ayani Hernandez added a two-hit night.

Tierney Hocquard tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing seven hits and striking out four.

Saint Leo jumped on the board in the first inning.
Abigail Hynes doubled with two outs before
Sydney Cline launched a two-run home run to right center.
Izzy LaRoche followed immediately with a solo shot to left center to make it 3-0.
The Lions struck again in the second.
Marissa Martinez singled and
Ayani Hernandez followed with a base hit. After both runners moved up on a groundout,
Alexis Barber delivered a two-run single and took third on the throw, pushing the lead to 5-0.
Florida Tech threatened in the second after Kate Rodel reached third on a double and an error, but Saint Leo erased the danger. Jacqleen Golden was thrown out at the plate on a bunt, and then Mia Terito was cut down trying to score during a double-steal sequence to keep the Panthers off the board.
Saint Leo added another run in the fourth without a hit. Hernandez was hit by a pitch,
Tegan Larrimore pinch ran and stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on
Briana Neal's sacrifice fly to right for a 6-0 lead.
The Lions capped the scoring in the fifth. Cline walked, Sommer Spears pinch ran and moved to third on LaRoche's double to right center, then scored on Antioco's sacrifice fly to left to make it 7-0.
Hocquard handled the rest from there, working around traffic in the middle innings and closing the shutout in the seventh.
