ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Saint Leo baseball team erupted for 16 runs behind a dominant second inning and cruised to a 16-4 (7 Innings) victory over Eckerd in a non-conference game on Tuesday night.
The Lions (14-13) broke the game open early, scoring six runs in the second inning to take a 7-1 lead and never looked back. Saint Leo added insurance throughout, including a seven-run seventh inning to seal the win.
Senior Ryan Crivello led the offensive surge, going 4-for-5 with a home run, double and four RBIs. Senior, Thomas DeBrower scored four runs and drove in three, while junior Abrahan Rios added three RBIs, highlighted by a bases-clearing double in the seventh. The Lions finished with 12 hits and drew 10 walks.
Saint Leo also applied pressure on the basepaths, with DeBrower stealing three bases and junior Luis Rivero swiping two.
On the mound, freshman Parker Hohnstock (4-1) earned the win, striking out seven over 5.1 innings while allowing four runs on three hits. He worked out of multiple jams before the bullpen closed it out.
The Tritons' pitching staff struggled to contain Saint Leo's lineup, issuing 10 walks and allowing 16 runs, all earned. The Lions outscored Eckerd 15-3 after the first inning and finished the game with 13 RBIs.
The Green & Gold will return to action this Friday, March 27th, as it travels to face Florida Tech in the Sunshine State Conference series opener starting at 6:00 PM.
