Hynes, LaRoche Homer as #8 Softball Sweeps Barry, Wins 22nd Straight

MIAMI SHORES,  Fla. – The eighth-ranked Saint Leo University softball team completed its fifth straight undefeated week as it completed the series sweep of the Barry Buccaneers. The Lions made themselves at home outscoring the Bucs, 25-5 over three-game series. Saint Leo was backed by solid hitting from the top of the lineup as its top three batters combined for 12 hits, nine RBI, and 11 runs scored. The Green and Gold extended the win streak to 22 games, just one shy of the program record. Saint Leo improves to 27-2-1 overall and 12-0 in SSC play, while Barry falls to 16-17 overall and 7-5 in SSC action.

The leadoff hitter, Briana Neal set a program record with her 92 career walk. Neal passes Kelly Kacie's 91 career walks and currently leads the SSC with 21 walks in 2026.

Saint Leo scored in four of the first six innings and finished with 13 hits in an 8-2 game one win. Abigail Hynes led the offense with a 2-for-4 day, driving in four runs on a home run. Sommer Spears added three hits, while Izzy LaRoche and Alexis Barber each recorded two hits. Briana Neal scored three runs and reached base four times with three walks and a hit. In the circle, Haleigh Thomas struck out nine over 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on no hits with six walks, before Alex Wright closed the final 1.1 innings. Barry was limited to two hits and struck out 10 times.

Saint Leo totaled 10 hits and scored in four consecutive innings to earn a 9-4 game two win. Alexis Barber went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Abigail Hynes finished 3-for-4 with three RBI. Izzy LaRoche added a home run, and Tegan Larrimore contributed a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Briana Neal scored twice, and Ayani Hernandez drove in a run. In the circle, Tierney Hocquard tossed 6.2 innings in relief, allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts to earn the win. Barry recorded eight hits and scored four runs, all in the opening inning.

GAME 1: #8 SAINT LEO 8, BARRY 2
Saint Leo jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning, then added three more in the second to build a 5-1 advantage. After a scoreless third and fourth, the Lions extended the lead with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Hynes provided the biggest swing of the game with a multi-RBI home run, accounting for half of Saint Leo's runs. Spears consistently set the table with three hits, while LaRoche and Barber added multiple-hit performances to keep pressure on Barry pitching.
Barry scored once in the first and added another run in the sixth but was held hitless through the first six innings. Saint Leo pitching combined to allow just two hits, with Thomas striking out nine before Wright recorded the final four outs to secure the victory.

GAME 2: #8 SAINT LEO 9, BARRY 4
Barry struck first with four runs in the opening inning on five hits to take an early 4-0 lead. Saint Leo responded in the third inning with three runs, then added two more in the fourth to take a 5-4 advantage.
The Lions continued to build momentum with three runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-4. Hynes drove in three runs on three hits to pace the offense, while Barber recorded three hits and two RBI. LaRoche's home run added to the middle-inning surge, and Larrimore's RBI double provided additional run support.
After the first inning, Saint Leo pitching settled in, with Hocquard limiting Barry to one run over the final 6.2 innings. Barry was held scoreless over the final six innings as Saint Leo closed out the five-run victory.
