SAINT LEO, Fla. – Eleven goal scorers led the 11th-ranked Saint Leo University women's lacrosse team to an dominating 20-6 victory at Montevallo on Sunday. Saint Leo closed out a 2-0 weekend thanks to another four-goal game by senior
Sophia Wood. The Lions improved to 5-1 overall to extend their win streak to five game. The Falcons drop to 1-5 overall.
Saint Leo rolled to a 20-6 road win at Montevallo, scoring eight goals in the first quarter and building a 14-3 halftime lead.
Holly Hill powered the Lions with seven points on two goals and five assists, while
Sophia Wood finished with four goals and one assist.
Grace DeWitt added three goals and one assist, and Saint Leo also saw multi-goal games from
Jana Nuss (2),
Natalie Jones (2), and
Sophia Santella (2). The Lions outshot the Falcons 39-15, held a 32-12 edge in shots on goal, and won the draw battle 18-8. In goal,
Jessica Harclerode made five saves in 45 minutes, while
Jordan Rose added one save over the final 15 minutes.
#11 Saint Leo 20, Montevallo 6
- Saint Leo struck first 14 seconds into the game as Sophia Wood finished a Holly Hill assist. After Montevallo answered to tie it 1-1, the Lions responded with goals from Sophia Santella and Jana Nuss to take a 3-1 lead. The Falcons trimmed the deficit and then evened the score at 3-3 with 4:12 remaining, but Saint Leo seized control with five straight goals to close the period, including three more from Wood, plus tallies from Hill and Briana Bellando, to take an 8-3 lead after one.
- The Lions continued to pour it on with six unanswered goals in the second. Grace DeWitt opened the scoring and later completed a three-goal quarter as Saint Leo stretched the lead into double digits. Emma Buthorn added a goal off a Sydney Brown assist, Nuss found the net again, and Natalie Jones capped the half with a power-play goal in the final minute to send Saint Leo into halftime up 14-3.
- Saint Leo added to the margin early with a woman-up goal from Jones, then Santella scored her second of the afternoon. Montevallo broke through for its first goal since the opening quarter, but Hill answered late to keep the Lions comfortably in front. Saint Leo carried a 17-4 lead into the final 15 minutes.
- Samantha Overs opened the fourth-quarter scoring before Anna Wood and Alexandra Bushey added goals to extend the lead to 20-4. Montevallo netted two late goals, but Saint Leo closed out the 20-6 victory.

Saint Leo returns home for two games this coming week. The week begins with and exhibition against Neumann on Tuesday followed by hosting Assumption on Thursday. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. opening draw at University Turf Stadium.
