#19 Men’s Lacrosse Begins 2026 Campaign With Dominating Victory

SAINT LEO, Fla. - #19 Saint Leo men's lacrosse opened up their a dominating win over the University of Alabama Huntsville at home by a score of 15-7.  

First Quarter: 

Senior Aidan Knoetgen set the tone for the evening, scoring 11 seconds into the game off an assist from senior Greg Palmer. The Knoetgen and Palmer connection stayed hot as Palmer connected at the 8:45 mark of the first quarter off an assist from Knoetgen. After another goal from sophomore Maverick Chernoff, Knoetgen found Palmer once again for another goal. The lions led 6-0 after one.  

Second Quarter:  

Saint Leo extended the advantage with a decisive scoring run, highlighted by Chernoff and senior Tristan LeBlanc finishing in transition while Knoetgen orchestrated the offense with crisp feeds. The Lions' pressure defense forced turnovers that quickly turned into scoring opportunities, pushing the halftime margin firmly in the Lions favor. Saint Leo lead 11-1 at halftime.  

Third Quarter:
Alabama Huntsville attempted to shift momentum, but Saint Leo responded with disciplined defense and timely scoring. Palmer completed his hat trick during the stretch, and the Lions' midfield depth kept the tempo high, preventing any sustained comeback push, leading 11-5 into the fourth.  

Fourth Quarter:
 
Saint Leo closed the game with confidence, continuing to attack the cage while maintaining defensive structure. Additional late goals from Alex Clark and Ben Baker capped the scoring and sealed the season opening victory 15-7.
