Men's Basketball Battles, but Lynn Pulls Away Late in SSC Matchup

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Saint Leo men's basketball team dropped a 97–85 Sunshine State Conference (SSC) road decision to Lynn on Wednesday night.

Head coach Spencer Henke stated, "It was a high scoring affair tonight that was back-and-forth. Unfortunately, we didn't make enough toughness plays that allowed us to win the game. Those plays are truly the plays that I think made the difference tonight." Henke also said, "I thought Owen, Donovan, and Rug hit some big shots tonight. Matt, Eli, and Dom did a good job finishing around the rim as well."

The Fighting Knights jumped out to an early lead and carried a 46–38 advantage into halftime after shooting nearly 58 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Saint Leo battled throughout the first half and stayed within striking distance behind perimeter shooting, however Lynn's shooting kept the Lions from closing the gap.

Saint Leo opened the second half by trimming the deficit to six early on, but the Fighting Knights responded with points in the paint. Lynn shot better than 60 percent in the second half and pushed the lead back into double figures midway through the period. Despite multiple runs by the Lions, Lynn maintained the edge down the stretch to secure the conference win.

Senior Donovan Hill led Saint Leo with 23 points, knocking down five three-pointers, while senior Owen Pawlikowski added 22 points and seven assists. Junior Jordan Ruggirello chipped in 16 points off the bench, and junior Elijah Harris contributed 11 points and five rebounds. Saint Leo shot 43.8 percent from the floor and connected on 13 three-pointers in the contest.

Saint Leo will return home to host #12 Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday, February 7 in a conference bout, starting at 4:30 p.m.
