WINTER PARK, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Saint Leo University softball team extended its win streak to eight games after completing the series sweep at Rollins on Friday.
Briana Neal and
Izzy LaRoche both had a two-hit game as the four pitchers combined to strike out 14 Tars in the 8-5 win. Saint Leo improves to 13-2-1 overall and 6-0 in SSC play, while the Tars fall to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in SSC play.
Izzy LaRoche and
Briana Neal both went two-for-four at the plate with a pair of runs scored. LaRoche, Neal, and
Abigail Hynes all homered for a second straight day.
Sydney Cline had two RBI on a one hit and utility
Alex Wright recorded her first career hit and RBI. Wright also pitched two innings allowing two runs on five hits. Thomas earned her third win of the season in 1.2 innings pitched and
Tierney Hocquard earned her second save pitching three scoreless innings and striking out five. each and led the Lions in game one at the plate with a three-for-three day including a home run, a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Cline was two-for-three with an RBI and a run scored.
Nia DeBenedittis was two-for-two with a two RBI, and two runs scored and a double. In the circle,
Tierney Hocquard improved to 6-1 as she went 5.0 innings allowing just a single run on six hits while striking out four.
UP NEXT
Saint Leo returns home for three doubleheaders next week. The Lions will host Wilmington (Del.) (March 2), Assumption (March 3), and Tiffin (Ohio) (March 5). Each day is set for a 5 p.m. game one first pitch at Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium.
