Women’s Basketball’s Late Comeback Falls Short

Feb 14, 2026

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — Saint Leo women's basketball fell on the road to the Buccaneers of Barry University by a score of 83-77.

First Quarter:

Saint Leo struggled to find rhythm early, but freshman Zoe O'Leary provided a needed spark off the bench with a pair of strong takes inside. Despite falling into a deficit, the Lions' energy on the glass and defensive effort began to stabilize the game late in the period.

Second Quarter:

The second quarter saw 25 points while shooting 62.5% from the field (10-for-16), clicking on all cylinders. The Lions attacked the paint relentlessly, with sophomore Jocelyn Gagnon, junior Olivia Agunzo, and freshman Jailenn Green all contributing key buckets. O'Leary continued her strong play inside, and graduate student Paula Llovich knocked down perimeter shots to help cut into the deficit. A 9-0 run highlighted the quarter as the Lions trailed 42-32 at half.

Third Quarter:

Saint Leo kept the momentum rolling out of halftime, scoring 22 points behind balanced production across the lineup. Gagnon pushed the pace, Agunzo connected from deep, and sophomore Amy Duggan added timely scoring while anchoring the defensive effort. The Lions' ball movement improved dramatically, leading to cleaner looks and sustained pressure on the Barry defense. The lead continued to be trimmed, as Saint Leo trailed 62-54 heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter:

The Lions continued to battle, pouring in 23 more points in the final frame. O'Leary powered through the paint for tough finishes, while Gagnon attacked downhill and converted at the free throw line. Saint Leo's bench remained a major factor, contributing 36 total points and keeping the offense rolling late. Despite the strong push, Barry held on down the stretch, and saint Leo fell 83-77.
