SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University volleyball team fell Friday evening 3-1 to No. 9 Barry inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center. The Lions took an early lead, capturing a back-and-forth opening set 25-22. The Buccaneers went on to win the final three sets but the Lions battled the entire way including falling by just two points in the third, 25-23.
Sophomore
Alexa Gandolfo led the offensive attack as she tallied a career-high 15 kills while adding a pair of digs and a block. Freshman
Reagan Lyerla and junior
Chloe Danielson tied for second on the team with 11 kills each. Lyerla had just two hitting errors the entire match while posting a .243 hitting percentage. She also added a team-best two service aces, eight digs, and a career-high four blocks. Danielson also had a strong hitting night, finishing with just three errors. She finished with a team-best .348 hitting percentage while adding an ace, a dig and a team-best six blocks including one solo.
Freshman setter
Jansen Warbritton tied a career-high with 42 assists while adding nine digs and a pair of blocks. Graduate student
Giada Solorzano made her second-straight start at libero and finished with a team-best and career-high 21 digs. Junior
Emma LeTourneau made her impact felt at the net as she finished with five blocks including a team-best two solo stops while adding five kills.
The Lions tallied 11 team blocks in the match which sets a new season-high for Saint Leo. The Bucs finished with 13 blocks but the Lions out-dug the visitors 60-58.
Veronika Eremeeva led Barry with 23 kills and 14 digs while Valeriya Kozlova chipped in 18 kills and six blocks.
The loss drops Saint Leo to 4-12 overall and 0-6 in league action while the Buccaneers improved to 10-2 and 5-0 in conference. The Buccaneers took the match 22-25, 25-16, 25-23, and 25-18.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. as they host Florida Tech in another Sunshine State Conference contest.
