GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Saint Leo University track and field opened their inaugural season competing at the Alachua County Sports and Event Center Invitational and Multis meet. During the two day meet both teams saw a combined 25 personal bests.
The 400m saw indoor personal bests from freshman Kansas Henry, Alisah Ward, and Alexei Leon George splitting times of 61.52, 61.02, and 52.56 respectively. The one mile saw many personal bests as well, for the men freshmen Angelo Acosta and Santiago Rodriguez ran personal bets of 9 and 18 seconds, crossing the line with times of 4:39.26 and 4:39.85. They were followed just behind by freshman Jason Bracero Jr who finished in 4:41.79.
The 200m saw Henry, freshmen James Jones IV, Jordan So, and George all run personal bests. They placed with times of 26.28, 23.38, 22.10, 22.50. So led the way with a 7th place finish in the 200, and also placed 5th in the 300 in 34.97.
Freshman Adon Elienist saw personal bests in the 400m and 800m, running times of 51.44 and 1:59.01. Acosta also ran a personal best of 2:05.38. Ward also saw a personal best in the 800m at 2:29.99.
Virginia Smith and Hawley Johnson both opened up their colligate careers with their first ever pentathlon. Smith saw personal bests in the 60m hurdles and 800m with marks of 10.95 and 2:43.90, and Johnson saw a personal best in the 800m at 2:45.60.
The track and field team is back in action on Friday Feb. 6 at the Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic.
