Women’s Basketball Comeback Comes Up Short Against Tars

SAINT LEO, Fla. — Saint Leo women's basketball came up short against the Rollins College Tars 70-58 despite a late comeback.

First Quarter:

Saint Leo generated quality looks early, but shots did not fall as the Lions opened just 2-of-18 from the field. Defensively, Saint Leo battled, highlighted by multiple contested rebounds from freshman Zoe O'Leary, yet Rollins converted in transition to establish an early cushion. Rollins 19 led Saint Leo 6 after one.

Second Quarter:

The Lions found offensive life in the second period, sparked by sophomore Jocelyn Gagnon, who connected on a pair of three-pointers to momentarily shift momentum. Freshman Jailenn Green added an aggressive drive to the basket and free throws during a brief Saint Leo run, but Rollins responded with timely perimeter shooting to carry a 20-point lead into halftime. Rollins 40 led Saint Leo 20 at the half.

Third Quarter:

Saint Leo delivered its strongest stretch coming out of the break, attacking the paint and playing with renewed pace. Junior Olivia Agunzo powered the Lions offensively with finishes inside and a mid range jumper, while Green added another strong take to the rim, though Rollins matched the output to maintain its advantage. Rollins 58 led Saint Leo 38.

Fourth Quarter:

The Lions closed the game with improved defensive intensity, holding Rollins to 12 points in the final quarter. Agunzo capped her career high night performance with a strong finish through contact, and Saint Leo continued to pressure defensively, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome. Despite the loss, Agunzo put up career highs in points and 3 pointers. Rollins ultimately won 70- 58.

Saint Leo Stat Leaders:

The women's basketball team is back in action on the road Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 5pm at Florida Southern.
