WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Saint Leo women's basketball battled to the end in an SSC road Contest against Palm Beach Atlantic ultimately falling 72-66.
First Quarter
Saint Leo opened the game with perimeter shooting and strong ball movement, seeing sophomore Jocelyn Gagnon knocking down a pair of early three-pointers to spark the offense. The Lions attacked the paint effectively and matched Palm Beach Atlantic possession for possession. Despite Saint Leo's efficiency, the Sailfish closed the quarter with a late basket to take a 23-21 lead after one.
Second Quarter
The Lions continued to trade momentum in the second quarter, using defensive stops and transition opportunities to stay close. Gagnon and junior Olivia Agunzo led the offensive push, while freshman Zoe O'Leary provided interior scoring and rebounding. Saint Leo shot 50 percent in the quarter, but Palm Beach Atlantic capitalized on free throws late to maintain a narrow halftime advantage, 39-37 Sailfish.
Third Quarter
Saint Leo delivered its strongest stretch after the break, forcing turnovers and turning defense into offense. Agunzo connected on a fast-break three to tie the game, and Gagnon followed with another triple to briefly give the Lions the lead. Junior Mira Hanna added timely baskets and free throws as Saint Leo pulled ahead entering the fourth, 56–55.
Fourth Quarter
The Lions continued to fight in the final period, with O'Leary scoring inside to regain the lead midway through the quarter. The Sailfish responded with key perimeter shooting and a decisive run at the free throw line. Saint Leo stayed within reach until the final minute, but the Sailfish sealed the game from the stripe despite a late three-pointer by Agunzo.
