Froese's Late Goal Against Delta State Propels Women's Soccer to 3-2 Win

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Freshman women's soccer student-athlete Chloe Froese's first collegiate goal came at a prime time as the Saint Leo University women's soccer team earned its first win of the season. Saint Leo held a 2-1 advantage at the half before a DSU goal in the 82nd minute tied the game at 2-2. Saint Leo improves to 1-1 on the season.

The Lions has three goal scorers as Payton Gibney, Katja May and Froese all recorded their first goals of the season. The three also were the only three to record multiple shots in the game. Skye Dias, Ainsley Meyer, Sara Hanson, and Tiana Mainella all recorded a shot in the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions wasted little time getting on the board. In the fifth minute, Payton Gibney finished a chance set up by Ainsley Meyer and Agnes Johansson, giving Saint Leo a 1–0 edge.
  • Delta State quickly responded in the ninth minute when Millie Congerton converted to level the match at 1–1.
  • Saint Leo regained the lead in the 35th minute. After drawing a foul in the box, Katja May calmly buried the penalty kick to put the Lions up 2–1 heading into halftime.
  • The second half saw both sides trade opportunities, with goalkeeper Soley Larusdottir coming up big on multiple occasions en route to a seven-save performance.
  • The Statesmen broke through late in the 82nd minute when Yalitza Zepeda scored off an assist from Raegan Tucker, knotting the contest at 2–2.
  • Refusing to let the match slip away, the Lions answered swiftly. In the 88th minute, Chloe Froese delivered the decisive strike, pushing Saint Leo back in front 3–2.
  • The Lions' back line held firm in the closing minutes as Delta State pushed forward, securing Saint Leo's first win of the young season.
  • Saint Leo was efficient with its chances, scoring three goals on just four shots on frame, while Delta State was denied nine times by Larusdottir.

  • 7 saves for Soley Larusdottir, who anchored the defense in the second half.
  • 2 assists on the opening goal, with both Meyer and Johansson credited.
