Van Doren and Dias Score as Women's Soccer Falls 4-2 at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Saint Leo University women's soccer team continued its four-game road stand to open the season as it made the trip to Huntsville for a non-conference meeting with the Chargers. The saw a 1-0 lead at the break quickly turn into a 4-1 advantage for the Chargers before falling 4-2. Saint Leo falls to 1-2 on the season. Freshman Ella Van Doren scored her first collegiate goal on Friday.

Chloe Froese tallied five shots with four on goal, Skye Dias added two shots with one goal and one assist, and Van Doren scored her first career goal on a pair of shots. Katja May, Ruari Dever, Annika Schuller, Sophia Schlager, and Katherine Neves each recorded one shot, with May, Dever, Schlager, and Neves putting theirs on target.

As a team, Saint Leo recorded 13 total shots with 11 on goal, converting twice through Van Doren and Dias. UAH tallied 18 shots, placing six on target and converting four times. The Lions earned four corners and committed four fouls, while UAH finished with five corners and six fouls.

  • Saint Leo struck first in the 11th minute when Skye Dias delivered a pass to Ella Van Doren, who buried her first collegiate goal to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage. The Lions carried that momentum into halftime, holding the Chargers off the scoreboard behind solid defensive play and a timely stop from goalkeeper Soley Larusdottir.
  • The match shifted quickly after the break as UAH equalized in the 46th minute through Sabrina Da Silva. The Chargers continued their surge with three more goals in the span of 17 minutes, including finishes from Jayla Gillespie and Katey Ann Klingel, before Da Silva struck again to make it 4-1.
  • Saint Leo continued to push forward and found a response in the 71st minute when Dias tallied her second goal of the season to trim the deficit to 4-2. Chloe Froese led the Lions with five shots, four of them on goal, while Dias contributed a goal and an assist in another strong outing.
  • Goalkeepers Larusdottir and Emma Guidotti split time in net, each recording a save, as the Lions battled throughout the contest.
