AIKEN, S.C. – The Saint Leo University women's soccer team hit the road to open the 2025 season. The Lions made the seven-hour trip north to begin a new year at USC-Aiken. The home team used a pair of first half goals to maintain control of the score as Saint Leo dropped a 4-1 match on Thursday evening.
Freshman striker
Skye Dias had the lone goal for the Green & Gold with her first collegiate score coming in the 54th minute. Four Lions accounted for seven shots as
Katja May,
Chloe Froese,
Annika Schuller tallied a pair of shots each. May and Froese's shots were all on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- USC Aiken struck first in the fifth minute as Greta Ohlwein set up Lexi Blasberg for the early 1–0 edge.
- The Pacers doubled their advantage in the 28th minute when Ohlwein found the net herself to put the Lions down by a pair.
- Saint Leo generated a pair of first-half chances from May, both denied by USC Aiken keeper to keep the margin at two heading into the break.
- Out of halftime, the Lions began to settle in, with Froese testing the keeper twice before breaking through in the 54th minute. Skye Dias scored her first collegiate goal to cut the deficit to 2–1.
- Just eight minutes later, USC Aiken answered as it slipped one home in the 62nd minute to restore the two-goal lead.
- Despite strong efforts from Froese, Schuller, and Dias in the attack, Saint Leo couldn't find a second breakthrough against a Pacer defense backed by five saves.
- The Pacers sealed the match in the 74th minute with their fourth and final goal.
