SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team picked up its first Sunshine State Conference (SSC) win of the season on Wednesday night, shutting out visiting Florida Southern, 2-0, at University Turf Field.
The Lions (2-3-1, 1-1 SSC) struck first late in the opening half as
Anel Rojas found the back of the net in the 41st minute off an assist from
Virgilio Escala. The goal marked Rojas' first of the season and gave Saint Leo a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, Saint Leo doubled its lead when Jorge Perez connected in the 80th minute, finishing a setup from Rojas to seal the result. The score was Perez's third of the season.
Defensively, the Lions stood tall behind goalkeeper
Pablo Bas Colomer, who made one save en route to his first clean sheet of the year. The Lions outshot the Moccasins 13-8, including a 7-1 edge in shots on goal.
Saint Leo returns to action on Wednesday, October 1 as it hosts Florida Tech in an SSC bout, starting at 7 p.m.
