AMERICUS, Ga. – Saint Leo University women's soccer team concluded its four-game road stand to open the season after making a return trip to the state of Georgia. The Lions conceded a pair of second half goals as they dropped their third game of the season with a 2-0 loss. Saint Leo falls to 1-3 on the season as Georgia Southwestern improves to 3-2.
Saint Leo recorded 10 total shots with seven on target, led by Dever's four and May's three. Schuller added two and
Julia Gonsman tallied one. The Lions earned seven corner kicks while committing 10 fouls. Georgia Southwestern finished with seven shots, three on goal, converting twice in the second half. The Hurricanes added three corners and committed 11 fouls.
How It Happened
Saint Leo generated early pressure in Americus, earning two corner kicks and four first-half shots, including three on goal from
Ruari Dever. The Lions kept Georgia Southwestern in check through the opening 45 minutes, with goalkeeper
Emma Guidotti making a save shortly after entering in the 5th minute to preserve the scoreless tie.
The Hurricanes broke through late in the second half. In the 74th minute, Ella Moody scored off a setup from Jocelyn Ramos to put the hosts in front. Less than three minutes later, Cassidy Brunner doubled the advantage with a finish assisted by Toni Clark.
Saint Leo continued to push forward and created multiple opportunities down the stretch, including a pair of late attempts from
Katja May and
Annika Schuller that were turned away by GSW goalkeeper Alana Beddow. Despite seven shots on goal, the Lions were unable to find the back of the net in the 2-0 setback.
