ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team concluded its series at Eckerd with a sweep of the Tritons in a doubleheader. The Lions won game one 13-7 before winning game two by a 15-4 margin to sweep the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) counterpart.
Game One: Saint Leo 13-7
Junior
Dylan Mass blasted a two-run homer to right field followed by
Ryan Robinson driving in a run with an infield single, 3-0. Mass then doubled in the second to score classmate
Thomas DeBrower. Eckerd cut the Lions' lead in half 4-2 in the bottom of the second inning. Robinson singled through the right side for an RBI while sophomore Jake Carillo plated two runners on a single to right field, 7-3.
During the fifth, the Tritons scored three runs as Saint Leo led 7-6. Junior Ryna Crivello notched a two-run single to right field to extend the Green and Gold lead to 9-6. The Lions scored four of the following five runs to win game one 13-7.
On the hill, senior
Dawson Turner started and pitched 1.1 innings. I relief, graduate student
Drew Rudsinski had 6.1 innings of work while striking out four batters in addition to allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits.
Game Two: Saint Leo 15, Eckerd 4
The Lions jumped out to a 7-1 after Mass singled down right field line. The Tritons cut the deficit to 7-4 in the fifth, however, the Green and Gold tallied eight consecutive runs that highlighted by a two-run double from Crivello in the eighth.
Senior
Kaelan Racculia started and pitched five innings and he struck out five with four runs allowed on nine hits. In relief, freshman
Nick Wilson pitched 3.0 innings and held the Tritons scoreless with one strikeout.
Saint Leo returns to action on Thursday, May 8 as it hosts top-ranked Tampa in an SSC bout, starting at 6 p.m.
