SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo baseball alum
Dariel Fregio has signed a rookie contract with the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. Over the course of his career with the Green and Gold, Fregio tallied a 17-8 record on the mound with 156 strikeouts in 177 innings pitched.
Fregio stated, "My time at Saint Leo was amazing, it helped shape me into the player and person I have become. I'm grateful for aa the relationships I've made there, and I want to thank Coach O'Dette and Coach Keim including all the coaches that have helped me throughout this journey."
The Florida native registered consecutive 8-win seasons for Saint Leo in 2022 and 2023 . He boasted a career-high 74 strikeouts in 2023 while holding opposing offenses to a .279 batting average in 2022. Fregio recently played with the Perth Heat in the Australian Baseball League (ABL) and recorded 48 strikeouts in 45.0 innings pitched along with a 1.51 WHIP.

Josh Keim stated, "We are very excited for Dariel and his continued achievements in professional baseball. He had an outstanding career on the mound for the Lions and continues to develop as a high-level pitcher. We wish him the best with the Tigers organization."
Fregio has been assigned to the Florida Complex League (FCL) Tigers where he will continue to develop until the Tigers organization upgrade the 6'-2" pitcher through their minor league system.
