Palomba Becomes First Lion Selected to IWLCA All-America First Team

May 21, 2025

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Maria Palomba became the first Saint Leo University women's lacrosse student-athlete to earn IWLCA Division II All-American First Team honors. Even weeks after her graduation, Palomba continues to make program history with her postseason first team accolades. The Lions finished the season 13-6 and posted a 3-4 record in conference play.

Palomba adds her second All-American honors after being named to the first team by USA Lacrosse Magazine last week. She also adds this to her resume following her All-Region selection and all-SSC accolades earlier this month after being named the SSC Midfielder of the Year and earning a spot on the first team, making her the second Lion in program history to earn All-SSC honors all four years following Fiona McLaughin becoming the first in the program last years. She was also the first Lion to earn Midfielder of the Year accolades and became the first Lion to earn multiple "of the Year" honors following her selection as the 2022 SSC Freshman of the Year.

Palomba posted a tremendous senior season, tallying 56 points off 49 goals and seven assists across 18 games. The Georgia native pushed her career total for draw controls over 500 winning 125 draws as she now holds the all-time SSC record with 517 draw controls. She picked up 29 ground balls, and caused 19 turnovers during the season. In 2025, Palomba ranked second in SSC draw controls and draw controls per game (6.94). She's also top-10 in goals scored, goals per game (2.72), shots (96), and shots per game (5.33).
