Baseball Closes Out 2025 with Win over #1 Tampa

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team capped off the 2025 season in dramatic fashion, taking down No. 1-ranked Tampa 4-2 on Saturday after Friday's second game was suspended due to inclement weather at Thomas B. Southard Stadium, following a hard-fought 7-0 loss on Friday afternoon

Game 1: Tampa 7, Saint Leo 0
The Spartans opened the scoring with a grand slam off the bat and never looked back.

Senior Dylan McDonald led Saint Leo with two hits, while classmate Braden Killens added a pair of his own. Senior pitcher Kaelan Racculia (7-7) took the loss, giving up six earned runs in four innings of work. Despite the outcome, reliever AedanWalter held Tampa to just one run across five strong innings, striking out four.

Game 2: Saint Leo 4, #2 Tampa 2
The Lions bounced back with energy and execution in Game 2, fueled by a strong start from graduate student Drew Rudsinski and a shutdown effort from senior Dawson Turner (3-3), who earned the win in his final home appearance.

Tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the eighth, Saint Leo broke through with a pair of clutch runs. Killens singled to lead off the frame, and senior Travis Graves followed with a perfect bunt single. After loading the bases, McDonald drew a go-ahead RBI walk before junior Ryan Crivello delivered a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-2.

Turner shut the door in the ninth, stranding a runner on second with a strikeout and two quick outs to seal the victory.

Offensively, Crivello led the way with two RBI, while Mass, Odor, and DeBrower each crossed the plate. Saint Leo's defense also turned two double plays and stole three bases to disrupt Tampa's rhythm.

The Lions (21-29) close out the 2025 season with momentum toppling powerhouse Tampa. It was the first time since the 2023 season that the Lions defeated the Spartans.
