TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – #12 Saint Leo University men's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Saturday in the South Region championship match. The Lions took on top-ranked Valdosta State, the same team that ended their season in the National Semifinals a season ago. Originally the match was scheduled to be played on the campus of Valdosta State, weather had other plans. The match was moved to the indoor tennis complex on the campus of NCAA Division I Florida State University. The Lions offered a valiant effort against the top-ranked Blazers but it was the team in red that earned a 4-1 victory and a spot at the national tournament. The Green & Gold finish the season with a 20-9 overall record, earning 20 wins for a third straight season. Saint Leo earned a runner up finish in the regular season with a 6-1 SSC record. 

Saint Leo got off to a strong start earning the doubles point with wins at number one and three doubles. VSU opened doubles play with a 6-3 win at number two doubles. Kodai Kato and Jose David Segovia were the number one pair and tied doubles play with a 6-3 win of their own. The doubles point came down to the number three court. Tied 6-6 the Lions number three pair of Vincent Thiel and Eduardo Cohen won the tiebreaker 7-5 to clinch the early 1-0 lead in the match.

The Blazers used a quartet of 6-1 or 6-2 first-set wins as they earned four straight singles wins to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 victory. Vincent Thiel earned a 6-1 first set win to before falling in the second set 7-5 but his match was abandoned. Eduardo Cohen was leading in the second set 5-1 before his match was also abandoned due to Valdosta State clinching on court three.
