Saint Leo, Fla. – In a momentous announcement made at the Green and Gold Awards Ceremony on Tuesday evening, Interim Chief Operating Officer James DeTuccio officially promoted Marcal Lazenby to the position of Vice President of Athletics, Wellness, and Recreation at Saint Leo University. The ceremony, held at the Wellness Center, was attended by over 550 student-athletes, coaches, and staff, where Lazenby kicked off the event with one of his signature entrances, setting the tone for a night of celebration.
"Marcal, your hard work, leadership, and unwavering dedication to Saint Leo University and our athletic department have been nothing short of inspiring," said James DeTuccio during the announcement. "You lead with integrity and vision, and we are incredibly fortunate to have you as a part of this institution. I want to be the first to publicly congratulate you on your well-deserved promotion to Vice President of Athletics, Wellness, and Recreation. We are excited for the future, and we know it's in good hands."
Lazenby's leadership has propelled the Saint Leo Athletics Department to new heights, with significant growth and innovation. Recently, he relaunched the Cross Country program and launched the Junior Varsity initiative, adding reserve programs for several key sports, including soccer, men's basketball, baseball, and volleyball. Under his guidance, the Track & Field program was reinstated, and the university is set to launch a Women's Flag Football program this fall, adding to the department's diverse offerings.
Lazenby has also overseen the renaming of the university's softball stadium to Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium and the baseball field to Pete Biscardi Field. His vision for the department's facilities continues with the development of a new track facility and the resurfacing and renaming of the Bowman Center basketball court. Additionally, he is managing the construction of three new locker rooms to accommodate the growing athletic programs and roster expansions.
