Box Score DAYTONA, Fla. – The fifth-seeded Saint Leo men's lacrosse team lost in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament presented by Pollo Campero by a 14-9 margin at fourth-seeded and 18th-ranked Embry-Riddle on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 advantage following a pair of goals from
Zach Kroog, however, the Eagles answered with two consecutive goals. At the 3:28-mark,
Thomas Nelan gave the Lions a 3-2 edge before freshman
Maverick Chernoff found the net to extend the Saint Leo lead to 4-2 at the end of the opening frame.
Embry-Riddle laced five unanswered goals to start the second quarter to lead 7-4 until sophomore
Brayden Stellwagen tallied a goal with 2:08 remaining in the first half. At halftime, the Eagles led 8-5 before scoring the first three goals of the third quarter as they stretched their advantage to 11-5.
The Lions mustered four more goals as junior
Ben Baker and freshman
Anderson Smith recorded a hat-trick in the final frame.
Saint Leo concludes its 2025 campaign with a 9-7 overall record and a 3-4 mark in conference action while earning its third consecutive league tournament berth.
