Fifth-Seeded Men’s Lacrosse Opens SSC Tournament at Fourth-Seeded Embry-Riddle

SAINT LEO, Fla. -The Saint Leo men's lacrosse team earned the fifth-seed for the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament presented by Pollo Campero. The Lions sealed its third straight SSC Tournament berth with a 17-7 victory against Florida Tech in the regular season finale. The Green and Gold concluded the 2025 regular season with 9-6 overall record and a 3-4 mark in conference action.

The five other programs that clinched a postseason spot in the SSC Men's Lacrosse Tournament features top-seeded Tampa, second-seeded Lynn, three-seeded Rollins, fourth-seeded Embry-Riddle, and sixth-seeded Florida Tech. With claiming the fifth seed, the Lions will hit the road to take on fourth-seeded Embry-Riddle, who is ranked 18th in the country, on Saturday, April 19 at 4 p.m. in Daytona Beach. In the regular season matchup between the Eagles and Lions, Embry-Riddle won by a 11-10 margin in a triple-overtime thriller on Saturday, April 5. In the series, Saint Leo leads 4-2 while winning two of the last three meetings.

As a team, the Lions average 11.40 goals per game for fourth-best in the SSC while the Eagles are fifth with 10.79 goals per contest. Embry-Riddle averages 38.36 shot attempts per game while Saint Leo averages 37.13. The Green and Gold paces the league with 25 man-up goals on the year son far while the Eagles are fifth with 14 man-up scores.  The Lions feature a defense that only surrenders 10.79 goals per game, the third-best mark in the conference while the Eagles are right behind them with an average of 11.52 goals per game.

Both teams feature some of the top scorers in the SSC as Trey Dring from Embry-Riddle is tied with junior Aiden Knoetgen with 28 goals this season, tied for fourth-best in the league. Additionally, Knoetgen leads the SSC in assists with 28 and points with 56. Sophomore midfielder Andrew Graham is top of the premiere faceoff specialist in the conference as he ranks sixth with a faceoff percentage of .548 while collecting 79 ground balls for the second most in the SSC. Junior defender Owen Wills set a new single-season program record with the most caused turnovers in a season with 32 that ranks second in the conference.

The winner of Saturday's game with advance to the semifinals to either face top-seeded and No. 1 ranked Tampa or second-seeded and 20th-ranked Lynn on Wednesday, April 23.
