Baseball Wins Series at Embry-Riddle, Racculia Pitches Gem in the Process

DAYTONA, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team split its Sunshine State Conference (SSC) doubleheader at Embry Riddle to collect the series win. The Lions lost game one by a 19-9 margin before earning an 8-0 shutout victory in game two.

Game Two: Saint Leo 8, Embry-Riddle 0
Senior Ryan Robinson knocked in classmate Dylan McDonald on a single up the middle to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead. In the third, junior Dylan Mass drove in senior Travis Graves on a groundout. Junior Amai Rivera-Martinez notched an RBI-single to center field as Robinson crossed home plate. Graves extended the Lions edge to 4-0 with an RBI-single to drive in Rivera-Martinez in the fourth.

During the sixth, McDonald singled through the left side as he plated senior Braden Killens and Rivera-Martinez, 6-0. In the seventh, Killens batted in Robinson with a single to left field. Junior Ryan Crivello capped off the Green and Gold scoring output with an RBI on a fielder's choice as classmate Thomas DeBrower scored a run.

On the mound, senior Kaelan Racculia pitched a gem with a complete-game shutout victory. He tallied seven strikeouts while only allowing six hits.

Game One: Embry-Riddle 19, Saint Leo 9
The Lions struck first with McDonald knocking in DeBrower on a single through the right side. However, the Eagles answered in the bottom of the first with a run to tie the game at 1-1. Rivera-Martinez gave Saint Leo a 2-1 edge in the second with a single through the left side as he plated Robinson. Embry-Riddle went on to score five unanswered runs to lead 6-2. In the sixth, Martinez doubled to center field to score Robinson and Crivello, 6-4.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Eagles extended their lead to 8-4. The Green and Gold collected a pair of runs in the seventh as DeBrower and McDonald each scored on a groundout. While trailing 18-6, Graves blasted a two-run homer to left center before Crivello launched a solo shot to left center as well in the ninth.

On the mound, graduate student Kyle Scrape pitched 4.1 innings and struck out four batters while allowing six runs (all earned) on nine hits. In relief, sophomore Jake Rychter had 1.2 innings of work while he tallied a pair of strikeouts in addition to allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit. Sophomore Kaiden Perez pitched 1.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts with one run (earned) on two hits.

Saint Leo returns to action on Friday, April 4 as it hosts #13 Florida Southern in an SSC bout, starting at 6 p.m.
