Saint Leo University Names Nick Spino as Head Track & Field Coach

Mar 21, 2025

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Nick Spino as the Head Coach for the men's and women's track & field programs. Spino brings a wealth of experience and a track record of success, making him the ideal leader as Saint Leo relaunches track & field as a varsity sport.

Spino joins Saint Leo following a successful tenure as the Head Coach of the men's and women's track & field teams at Glenville State College. Over six seasons, he led his teams to multiple top finishes in the Mountain East Conference (MEC), consistently developing All-Conference athletes and NCAA provisional qualifiers. Under his leadership, the Pioneer men's and women's teams each finished in the top five at the MEC Championships, with numerous student-athletes earning individual titles and accolades.

"Nick Spino's leadership, experience, and passion for developing student-athletes make him a tremendous addition to our coaching staff," said Marcal Lazenby, Director of Athletics, Wellness, and Recreation. "His commitment to excellence aligns with our vision for the relaunch of track & field at Saint Leo, and we are confident he will build a competitive and thriving program."

Spino, a native of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, where he attended Jeannette Senior High School, was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame for his illustrious career in the hurdles. After high school, he attended Seton Hill University, where he was a member of the Griffins Track & Field team and helped lead them to the school's very first Men's WVIAC Team Conference Championship. Spino was also a nationally ranked 400-meter hurdler, all while receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management.

Later, Spino went on to receive his Master's in Business Administration at West Virginia Wesleyan College. During his time at WVWC, he served as a graduate assistant coach, helping guide the Bobcats to multiple conference championships while mentoring NCAA qualifiers and Academic All-Americans.

"I am honored to join Saint Leo University and lead the track & field program during this exciting time," said Spino. "The investment in facilities and the commitment to student-athlete success made this an incredible opportunity. I look forward to building a culture of excellence and helping our athletes compete at the highest level."

Spino's appointment comes as Saint Leo prepares to construct a new track facility and recruit top-tier student-athletes to compete in the Sunshine State Conference. His experience in developing championship-caliber teams will be instrumental in the growth and success of the program.

Saint Leo Athletics welcomes Coach Spino to the Lions family and looks forward to the future of track & field under his leadership.
