SAINT LEO, Fla. – #20 Saint Leo University women's tennis team improved to 11-2 with a 5-2 win over Franklin Pierce on Friday. Paris Marozzelli clinched the match point for the Lions with a win at singles number six. The Ravens fall to 5-7 overall.

Saint Leo earned the early lead with a doubles wins at number one and three. Sophia Johnson and Kamilya Shailina opened up play with a 6-0 blanking of the Raven's number one pair.  Arianna Bettinelli and Karina Montoya clinched the doubles point for the Lions with a 6-0 win at number three doubles. Franklin Pierce's number two pair made sure the doubles play was not a complete sweep for the home team with a 6-3 win at number two doubles.

Bettinelli led off singles play with a 6-3 and 6-2 win to give the Lions a 2-0 lead at number four singles. The visitors got on the board with a win at number three singles to cut the Lions lead in half. Wins at number two and six singles gave the home team all it needed to win. Montoya posted identical 6-3 wins to make it a 3-1 lead for the Lions. At number six singles, Marozzelli won 6-3 and 6-4 to clinch the match victory for Saint Leo. The teams traded wins on the final two courts as the Franklin Pierce got a win at number five singles. Johnson closed out the victory with a win at number one singles as she turned a first set 6-1 loss into a three-set victory winning the final set in a tiebreaker.
