#16 Men’s Lacrosse Takes Down #9 Maryville, Jorgensen Earns 200th Career Win

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Behind a five-goal effort by junior John Raucci, the 16th-ranked Saint Leo men's lacrosse team collected an 11-9 victory versus ninth-ranked Maryville at home in non-conference play on Wednesday night. With the win, head coach Brad Jorgensen earned his 200th career victory.

The Lions rolled to a 6-0 lead in the first as Raucci already laced three of his five goals of the night in the first quarter. The Saints scored their first goal with 2:33 remaining in the opening frame as Saint Leo led by a 6-1 margin at the start of the second quarter.

During the second frame, a total of four goals were tallied as Maryville notched three of them. The Saints cut their deficit to 7-4 at intermission. Maryville struck first in the third quarter until sophomore Brayden Stellwagen found the net followed by junior Thomas Nelan scoring a man-up goal to give the Green and Gold a 9-5 lead.

In the fourth as Saint Leo held a 9-7 edge, Raucci registered his fifth goal of the night junior Zach Kroog found the net that extended the Lions lead to 11-7.

Raucci tied a career-high with five goals on eight shot attempts. Junior Tristan Leblanc posted two goals and one assist while Nelan finished the game with one goal and one assist. Freshman Anderson Smith recorded a goal while classmate Maverick Chernoff assisted Leblanc on the second goal of the game. Defensively, junior Owen Wills collected five ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Additionally, junior James Davies tallied five ground balls and caused three turnovers. In the net, junior Drew Wheeler posted nine saves in the complete-game effort.
