The Lions wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Nuss found the back of the net just 82 seconds after the opening draw. Hill gave the Lions a 2-0 lead halfway through the quarter. Saint Leo's defense forced six turnovers and held the Saints to only one goal in a tightly contested opening quarter.

Both the Lions and Saints continued to get good shots off, trading goals throughout the first six minutes of the second quarter. Nuss added her second and final goal of the game, while Jones and Wood added goals of their own as the Lions took a 6-3 lead into halftime.

The Lions and Saints continued to trade goals as the second half began. However, Flagler scored back-to-back goals in just over a minute to cut the Lions' lead to one. In goal, Harclerode was able to fend off a flurry of shots by Flagler to keep the Lions in front after three quarters.

Flager opened the scoring of the third quarter just 35 seconds in with its third straight goal to tie the game. Wood responded 51 seconds later to restore the Lions' lead. Hill added another goal as both sides once again traded goals. Junior midfielder Marina Dean restored the two-goal lead for the Green & Gold halfway through the final quarter.

Flagler got within one with 15 seconds left on the clock, but it was too little, too late, as the Lions held on to the victory.
