Men's Basketball Falls to Embry-Riddle at Home

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team suffered a 73-55 loss to Embry-Riddle on Saturday afternoon. Embry-Riddle completed the season sweep of Saint Leo in 2024-25, improving to 14-7 overall and 8-5 in conference play. While the Lions fall to 8-13 overall and 3-10 in SSC play.
 
The Eagles came out strong defensively, keeping the Lions scoreless for over four minutes early in the half. After an emphatic and-one by Camden Cerese, the Eagles took advantage of multiple Lions turnovers to go on a 7-0 run. The Eagles defense held the Lions to only one made field goal in a five-minute span through the halfway mark of the period and stretched their lead to double-digits.
 
The Eagles went on a 13-3 run into the final media timeout of the first half. Two three-pointers from Milan Skoric helped grow the lead to 16. The Lions would not back down, forcing multiple turnovers and keeping the Eagles scoreless for over three minutes late in the period. However, the Eagles would end up taking a 13-point lead into the half.
 
The Lions started the second half strong offensively, scoring 13 points in the opening six minutes. However, the Eagles seemed to always have an immediate answer, maintaining their double-digit lead throughout the awakening of the Lions offense.
 
The Lions went scoreless for over two minutes as the game entered its' final 10 minutes. The Eagles would take advantage of multiple Lions miscues and stretch the lead to 21 entering the under-eight media timeout. The Eagles controlled the boards throughout the game, outrebounding the Lions 49 to 23.
 
Despite Jaylan McElroy, Brady Corso, and Camden Cerese all scoring in double-figures, the Lions had no match defensively as the Eagles lead would get as high as 22 in the closing minutes.

Saint Leo returns to the court on Wednesday, February 5 to host the Barry Buccaneers in an SSC bout, starting at 7:30 p.m.
