SAINT LEO, Fla. — Saint Leo University women's basketball took on the Florida Southern Moccasins in their home conference opener. The women's basketball team ultimately fell by a score of 96-63.
Saint Leo started off the night with a strong first quarter, showing steady defense lead by freshman Zoe O'Leary who sparked the Lions in transition and scored multiple fast break layups. Junior Olivia Agunzo knocked down two threes to give the lions an early advantage. Sophomore Amy Duggan also contributed a late triple, helping Saint Leo close on a 6–0 run to secure a 20–16 lead after the opening period. The Lions forced seven first-quarter turnovers and held Florida Southern to 23.8% shooting, highlighting their defensive execution.
The second quarter began ans saw both teams traded leads throughout the second quarter. O'Leary remained an anchor offensively, while Agunzo added her third three of the half to help the Lions stay within reach. Though Florida Southern made a push late, the Lions' ball movement and composure kept the deficit cdeficinto halftime. Duggan and O'Leary combined for 23 first half points but trailed 42-37 at the half.
Saint Leo came out came out of the half and shot 50% from the field and hit three more threes in the third. Duggan connected on a deep jumper and later added a three pointer, while Agunzo hit another from long range to keep the Lions' offense rolling. O'Leary continued attacking the paint, finishing through contact and finding teammates for quality looks. Despite the Lions' strong quarter offensively, Florida Southern responded with its best shooting stretch of the night, extending its lead heading to the fourth. The Lions trailed 69-55 going into the fourth.
The Lions continued to compete late, with freshman Dackjerlin Senior Feliz providing a spark off the bench by scoring four straight points in the closing minute. Saint Leo's defense forced several contested shots early in the quarter before Florida Southern's depth and efficiency took over. Even with the Moccasins pulling away, the Lions maintained effort on the boards and in transition. Saint Leo ultimately fell 96-63.
