LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo University volleyball team hit the road for its first of three road matches this week. First up for the Lions was a stop in Lakeland to take on the Florida Southern College Moccasins. The Green & Gold took a set and pushed Florida Southern in several close frames before falling 3-1 on Tuesday evening.
Molly Chappell led all players with 16 kills on a .433 hitting percentage, while
Tajma Muharemovic tallied 18 assists and 12 digs for a double-double
Saint Leo hit .209 as a team with 46 kills and 19 errors on 129 attempts in the four-set match. Chappell paced the Lions with 16 kills, 11 digs, and one block, while
Paula Perez Rosales added nine kills and 12 digs.
Gina Stavile posted six kills and three blocks, and
Brielle Kallberg chipped in six kills and two block assists. Muharemovic directed the attack with 18 assists and 12 digs, while
Camila Villar contributed 16 assists and two service aces.
Mia Moser led the defense with 14 digs and three aces, and
Emma LeTourneau added four kills and four total blocks.

Set 1 | Florida Southern 25, Saint Leo 17
Saint Leo started well but was outpaced late as Florida Southern hit .421 in the frame. Kallberg and Perez Rosales supplied early offense, and Moser's serving helped the Lions cut the deficit to 15-13 before the Mocs finished on a 10-4 run.
Set 2 | Florida Southern 25, Saint Leo 22
The Lions kept the second set close throughout, highlighted by strong play from Chappell, who tallied five kills in the frame. Muharemovic kept the offense balanced, and Moser's aces helped Saint Leo rally from an early deficit. Despite the late push, Florida Southern held on for a 25-22 win.
Set 3 | Saint Leo 25, Florida Southern 22
Saint Leo came alive in the third set, hitting .429 behind six kills from Chappell and five from Perez Rosales. Villar sparked the Lions from the service line, and LeTourneau and Stavile provided key blocks to slow the Moccasin attack. The Lions closed on a 4-1 run to take the frame 25-22, their first against Florida Southern this season.
Set 4 | Florida Southern 25, Saint Leo 13
The Lions ran out of steam in the fourth, as Florida Southern regained control with a .323 hitting percentage. Chappell and Perez Rosales each added a pair of late kills, and Moser anchored the back row with four digs before the Mocs sealed the match.

Saint Leo heads to south Florida this weekend to take on Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m. on Friday, The Lions will close out its road schedule for 2025 on Saturday with a 4 p.m. match at Palm Beach Atlantic.
