SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team put together a high-powered offensive performance on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Webber International (Fla.) 90–84 in a non-conference matchup inside the Marion Bowman Center.
Saint Leo's perimeter shooting ignited the victory, as the Lions knocked down 15 three-pointers and saw six players score in double figures. Juniors Luther Smith and
Paul Lanzi combined for eight triples off the bench, sparking a first-half surge that carried Saint Leo to a 58–44 halftime lead. Smith finished with 19 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including four made threes, while Lanzi added 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from deep.
Sophomore
Camden Cerese registered 17 points, adding five rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes. Senior
Owen Pawlikowski followed with 13 points and a trio of three-pointers, while sophomore
Dominic Commisso delivered a strong all-around effort with 11 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Senior
Donovan Hill added 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, recording a double-double.
After stretching their its to as many as 20 in the opening half, Saint Leo held off multiple second-half pushes from the Warriors. Webber International cut the deficit to two with under 12 minutes left and later tied the game at 65–65. The Warriors claimed a 77-71 lead over the Lions with 6:28 left in regulation, however, a three-pointerr from Cerese sparked the Green and Gold offense for an 8-0 run to lead 79-71. Cerese posted seven of the Lions' last nine points to hold Webber International at bay and earn the victory.
Saint Leo returns to action on Friday, November 28 as it faces Bemidji State in a non-conference contest during the Florida Southern Mocs Thanksgiving Classic at 5 p.m.
