Women’s Basketball Falls In Road Opener

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Saint Leo University women's basketball fell 86–78 to Flagler College Saints. The Lions turned in a series of strong stretches, highlighted by an explosive third quarter and balanced scoring across the lineup.

Saint Leo opened the game shooting 42 percent and grabbing a quick eight point lead behind early baskets from junior Mira Hanna and sophomore Amy Duggan. The Lions forced six turnovers in the quarter with Jailenn Green and Paula Llovich Peña sparking a 12–5 advantage in points off turnovers. Flagler closed the quarter with a late surge leading the Lions 21–20 after one.

The Lions remained efficient offensively, hitting 4 of 9 shots and continuing to share the ball with eight first-half assists. Duggan connected from deep and Freshman Zoe O'Leary provided steady minutes off the bench, helping Saint Leo keep pace despite Flagler's push on the offensive rebounds. Llovich knocked down a jumper late in the frame as the Lions entered halftime within one possession, trailing just 36–33.

The third quarter saw the largest scoring output of the night with 32 points on a blistering 84.6 percent shooting clip. Llovich caught fire from long range, hitting all three of her third-quarter threes, while Duggan and freshman Jaileen Green combined for timely baskets in transition. O'Leary added key finishes inside as the Lions matched Flagler's 32-point burst and stayed firmly in contention heading into the final quarter down 68–65.

Saint Leo continued to battle, with Duggan and junior Olivia Agunzo converting early looks and Green adding four late free throws to keep the game within reach. Despite creating second chance opportunities Flagler capitalized at the free throw line to hold off Saint Leo's comeback attempt.

Despite the loss Saint Leo finished with five players scoring in double figures, shot 50 percent for the game, and forced 16 turnovers a series of positives as the Lions look ahead to their next matchup against Embry Riddle.
