BOCA RATON, Fla. – The seventh-seeded Saint Leo men's soccer team saw its Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Championship run come to an end Monday night, falling 3-1 on the road against second-seeded and nationally ranked No. 7 Lynn at Bobby Campbell Stadium.
The Lions struck first in the 72nd minute when senior
Anel Rojas found the back of the net off a setup from senior
Adam Yousfi. Yousfi dribbled into space before slipping a pass to Rojas, who fired a finesse shot into the top-right corner to give Saint Leo a 1-0 advantage.
Lynn responded quickly, equalizing eight minutes later on a converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute. The Fighting Knights tallied two more goals in the 87th minute to seal Lynn's 3-1 victory.
Saint Leo totaled 17 shots, including seven on goal, led by Yousfi with five attempts and three on target. Rojas added two shots, while goalkeeper
James Knudson recorded four saves in 90 minutes of action.
Lynn held a narrow 19-17 edge in total shots and a 5-4 margin in corner kicks.
The quarterfinal appearance marked Saint Leo's first SSC postseason berth since 2015, capping off a strong late-season push for the Lions.
