SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team held firm on its home turf Wednesday night, earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw against No. 22 Florida Tech in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) play on Wednesday night.
The Lions matched the nationally ranked Panthers in a physical, defensive battle that saw opportunities come at a premium. Both sides combined for just nine total shots, with Saint Leo edging Florida Tech 5-4 in attempts.
Senior
Adam Yousfi led the Lions' attack with two shots, while sophomore
Virgilio Escala, redshirt sophomore
Matt Donascimento, and senior
Yuto Komine each added looks at goal. Despite the chances, neither team could break through as defenses stayed organized and clear scoring opportunities were limited.
Senior goalkeeper
Pablo Bas Colomer anchored the Lions' back line, playing all 90 minutes and helping the defense secure its second shutout of the season.
The match grew tense late, with a flurry of fouls and cards issued in the second half. Florida Tech was forced to play down a man for the final 12 minutes after a red card in the 78th minute, however neither team found the back of the net.
Saint Leo also earned the edge in corner kicks, 2-1, but could not capitalize on set-piece opportunities.
The draw keeps the Lions unbeaten at home in conference play this season.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, October 4, when they travel to face Nova Southeastern in an SSC bout, starting at 7 p.m.
