MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – In a heartbreaking finish on the road, the Saint Leo men's soccer team fell 2-1 to Barry University in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) matchup Saturday night. The Buccaneers netted the game-winner in the final seconds to deny the Lions a hard-fought result.
Barry opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Despite the early deficit, Saint Leo responded with relentless pressure, outshooting the Buccaneers 19-12 and controlling long stretches of play.
The Lions' breakthrough came in the 75th minute when Rodolfo Iguala tallied his first goal of the season off a cross from Samuel Texieria, leveling the match at 1-1. Saint Leo continued to push forward, generating multiple late chances, but Barry capitalized on a final corner kick opportunity with just three second remaining.
Goalkeeper James Knudson made four saves for the Lions, while Anel Rojas led the offensive effort with five shots, including three on target.
