MARS HILL, N.C. – The Saint Leo University women's soccer team opened its first road trip of the season with a 2-0 blanking of the Mars Hill Lions on Monday afternoon.
Chayse McGirt put home what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 22nd minute. Sophomore goalie
Hannah Goetzer made three saves as she turned in her second straight clean sheet. Saint Leo improves to 2-1-1 on the season.
SAINT LEO 2, MARS HILL 0
- McGirt had her first goal of the season in the opening half of the game after a shot went off target and 30 seconds later, opened the scoring giving the visiting Lions a 1-0 lead.
- In a 90 second span following the goal, Goetzer made a pair of saves to keep Mars Hill off the board.
- Morgan Gamin attempted to tack on another goal late in the first half as her only shot of the game went out top right.
- Saint Leo for the first time in 2024 added a second goal to the scoreboard as Ella Owen connected for her team-leading third goal of the season in the 81st minute. Owen has now scored in three consecutive games (Eckerd, UAH, Mars Hill).
- In the final minutes of the game, Goetzer made her third save to keep the shut out in tack.

Saint Leo will continue its two-game road trip with a stop in Franklin Springs, Ga. to take on the Emmanuel Lions on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
