SAINT LEO, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Saint Leo baseball team went up 2-0 in its three-game series against Nova Southeastern as the Lions registered a 6-1 victory versus the Sharks on Saturday afternoon.
Nova Southeastern struck first with an RBI-double in the second inning before Saint Leo answered with a solo home run from senior
Josh Davis down the right field line, 1-1. Senior
Cooper Miles gave the Lions a 2-1 lead following a double to left field to plate junior Callen Moss. In the third, senior
Mikey Scott extended the Green and Gold advantage to 4-1 after launching a two-run homer to left center. During the fourth inning, Miles blasted a solo homer to left center to give the Lions a 5-1 cushion. From the fifth to the eighth inning, the Sharks were held to just two hits while Saint Leo continued to build momentum heading into the final innings. Jacob Young closed the door on the Sharks as he made a pair of batters groundout with one flying out in a total of 12 pitches.
Senior
Evan Wolf started for the Lions on the mound as registered a career-best eight strikeouts while he surrendered six hits and just one run in 7.0 innings.
Davis finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored while graduate student
Yazael Nunez went 2-for-4 at the dish. Miles posted two hits, two RBI and was walked once. Scott tallied one hit and a pair of RBI.
Saint Leo returns to action on Sunday, April 7 as it concludes the series versus Nova Southeastern with a solo game, starting at 1 p.m. in Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
