SAINT LEO, Fla. – The eighth–ranked Saint Leo University women's tennis team dropped its Sunshine State Conference match up against the second-ranked Barry Buccaneers at home on Friday afternoon. The Lions opened the match claiming the doubles point but the Bucs won all six singles matches to earn a 6-1 win. Saint Leo falls to 12-6 overall and 4-3 in the SSC while Barry improved to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
The Lions got off to a hot start with the #10 ranked doubles team of
Luzia Obermeier and
Lavinia Lancellotti earning a 6-3 doubles victory. After the visitors tied the doubles at 1-1, Saint Leo's
Kamilya Shailina and
Madelyn Martin posted a 7-5 win to clinch the doubles point for the home team.
Singles play went entirely in favor of the visitors as Barry rallied to earn six straight wins for the 6-1 victory. The Lions put up a fight at on a trio of courts as #52
Lavinia Lancellotti rallied for a second set victory to force a third set but fell 6-4 in the final set.
Claudia Borbon Roca tied the match at one set each with a tiebreaker victory in the second set but also fell 6-4 in the final set.
