SSC PREVIEW: Men's Lacrosse Heads to Florida Southern for SSC Quarterfinals

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's lacrosse team finished in a tie for fourth place in the 2024 Sunshine State Conference standings and clinched the fifth seed in the 2024 SSC championship. The Lions will be on the road at the number four seed, Florida Southern on Saturday, April 20 with the opening faceoff at noon. Saint Leo finished the regular season with a 9-5 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the SSC. Florida Southern closed out its regular season with a 9-6 overall record and a 3-4 SSC record.

The Lions went 2-3 in 2024 against ranked opponents including a 12-9 win against #5 Rollins in the regular season finale to secure its spot in the SSC championship. Michael Flores led SSC in ground balls (155), ground balls per game (11.07), and faceoff percentage (.693)

Greg Palmer led the Lions offense in goals (40), assists (27), points (67), shots (105), shots on goal (70), and game winning goals (4). Guy Bistrow and Matthew Cleary led the team with four man-up goals each. Flores' 155 groundballs led the team and his 220 faceoff wins was the most on the team by nearly 200 wins. Chase Strait was the main Lion between the pipes as he went 9-5 on the season making 160 saves in over 800 minutes in goal.

Florida Southern closed out its regular season with a 19-5 win over Lynn on the final day of the regular season. Brydon Robichaud led the Mocs with 21 assists and 46 points. Brendan Glasser's 27 goals was most by a Moc in 2024. Jacob Czyz led the team with 242 faceoff wins and 137 ground balls.  

The NCAA Division II men's lacrosse selection show is set to be aired on May 5 with the first round (May 8), quarterfinal (May 12), semifinal (May 19) match ups taking place at sites to be determined at a later date. The NCAA Division II men's lacrosse championship match up will take place on May 26 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa. hosted by Drexel University.
