SAINT LEO, Fla. – The third-ranked Saint Leo men's tennis team continued its hot start to 2024 season as it extended its win streak to five matches with a 5-2 victory over #15 Rollins College on Saturday. The Lions improved to 11-1 on the season and remains a perfect 4-0 in Sunshine State Conference play following the Saturday's match at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead earning doubles wins at number two and three.
Nicolas Bacella and
Ghali Mensour opened the match with a 6-3 win at number two doubles.
Vincent Thiel and
Eduardo Cohen clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at number three doubles.
In the singles competition, the Lions took wins on the first four singles matches to finish to clinch the match. Thiel won both sets 6-3 to put the Lions up 2-0 at number two singles. With victories of 6-2 and 6-3 at number four singles, Mensour moved the Lions within one of clinching the match. The match was clinched with a two-set victory for
Luis Iriarte (6-1, 6-4) at number six singles.
