#14 Baseball Sweeps Kentucky Wesleyan in Twinbill, Claims Series Victory

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 14th-ranked Saint Leo baseball team swept Kentucky Wesleyan in a non-conference doubleheader to secure a series win as the Lions won game one by a commanding 13-2 margin followed by an 8-5 victory in game two.

Game One: #14 Saint Leo 13, Kentucky Wesleyan 2
The Green and Gold rattled off four runs in the first inning of game one as junior Callen Moss singled to right center to drive in a pair of runs followed by senior Cooper Miles batting-in Moss on a single to right field to give the Lions a 3-0 edge. Junior Nick Yedman extended the lead to 4-0 after scoring on a fielding error by the Panthers. Sophomore Dylan Mass kicked off a five-run second inning with a solo homer to right field. Yedman blasted a two-run double to right center, 7-0, while he was brought home by Miles with a triple to center field followed by junior Dylan McDonald's RBI-single up the middle, 9-0. In the third, senior Josh Davis singled to the shortstop as Mass crossed home plate, 10-0. The Panthers countered with a pair of runs but were held scoreless for the remainder of the game as Saint Leo went on to add one run in the fourth before plating two runs in the sixth.

On the mound, sophomore Sam Cole started for the Lions as he struck out two batters and only allowed one hit and two runs in 3.0 innings. In relief, senior Charles Lefebvre collected the win, his first of the season, while pitching 3.0 innings and recording three strikeouts in addition to surrendering just one run.

Miles finished the game with three hits, two RBI and one run scored. Mass tallied two hits, two RBI and crossed home base twice in addition to his long bomb in right field. Yedman went 2-for-3 at the dish with a pair of RBI and a trio of runs scored. McDonald drove in two runs and notched two hits.

Game Two: #14 Saint Leo 8, Kentucky Wesleyan 5
For the first two innings, neither team produced any runs until Moss doubled down the left field line as graduate student Zach Benson scored, 1-0. The Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fourth as Mass batted-in McDonald on a groundout to the second baseman before sophomore Ryan Crivello scored on an error from the Kentucky Wesleyan infield. Moss recorded a sacrifice-fly as senior Caleb Adams gave Saint Leo a 4-0 advantage while graduate student Luke Houin posted an RBI-double down left field line to score Benson.

In the fifth, Benson returned to favor as he launched a double down right field line as Mass and Crivello gave the Green and Gold a 7-0 cushion followed by Davis driving in Benson with a single to right field. The Panthers battled back in the seventh to trim their deficit to 8-5, highlighted by a three-run homer, however, senior Drew Rudsinski entered the game in a save opportunity and closed the door on a Kentucky Wesleyan comeback.
