SAINT LEO, Fla. - A first inning RBI double off the bat of
Madyson Coe was all the Saint Leo University softball team needed in the first inning of a 6-0 Sunshine State Conference victory over Florida Southern College. The Lions tacked on five additional runs in the second inning to improve to 26-10 overall and 13-3 in the SSC. Reigning SSC softball pitcher of the week,
Haleigh Thomas pitched another complete game shutout as the sophomore picked up her 10th win of the season.
Saint Leo scored six runs on nine hits as three Lions had a multi-hit game.

Hailey Beuerlein, and
Shyanne Waller all had two hits as Beuerlein had a game-high two RBI in the win.
Haleigh Thomas struck out 11 Mocs as she allowed just two hits and took a perfect game into the sixth inning. Â

- The Lions capitalized early on a Moccasin error by the shortstop. After Barber reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the first, Perez drew a one-out walk to set up Coe with a runner in scoring position.
- Coe sent a ball deep to straight away centerfield that crossed up the centerfielder and allowed Barber to score from second. Saint Leo scored what proved to be the winning run in the first inning leading 1-0.
- The Lions sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning as they rallied for five runs on four hits including four runs with two outs.
- Hope Epps sent a ball to right field for a base hit that Thomas moved up to third on but thanks to a fielding error by the right fielder she was able to advance another 60 feet to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
- Perez greeted the new Moccasin pitcher with a two-RBI base hit to centerfield that allowed Epps to score to give the home team a 3-0 advantage. Following a two-out walk by Coe to load the bases, Beuerlein recorded her first hit of the night as she sent a base hit to centerfield to score Briana Neal and Hope Epps as the Lions grew their lead to 5-0. Shyanne Waller bunted an RBI infield single to score Coe putting the Lions up 6-0.
- The Lions threatened to add on to their lead as they loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fourth but a strikeout and a foul out to the left fielder got the Mocs out of the inning with out a runner crossing the plate.
- Sandwiched in between a pair of strikeouts, Briana Neal made a highlight snow cone catch as the second basemen made the diving catch in shallow right field for the second out to preserve the prefect game.
- With one out in the top of the sixth inning, Florida Southern sent a base hit to left center for its first base hit of the game ending Thomas' chance of her second no-hitter in as many weeks.
- In the top of the seventh, Florida Southern sent a one-out base hit to left for its second hit of the game. Thomas got the next two batters out on a fly out to left and a ground out to third to end the game and earn her 10th win of the season.
UP NEXT
Saint Leo and Florida Southern are set to continue its SSC series with a doubleheader on Friday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon at University Softball Stadium.
