SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University softball team split its doubleheader against the Adelphi University Panthers on Wednesday evening at University Softball Stadium.
Haleigh Thomas pitched a 3-0 complete game shutout against the Panthers in game one before the visitors took game two 5-2. Saint Leo is now 22-10 on the season while Adelphi is 7-11 in 2024.
Thomas pitched a one-hit shutout for the second time in two weeks leading the Lions to a 3-0 win in the opening game.
Morgan Shannon pitched two innings in the second game allowing no runs on no hits as she retired all six batters faced.
Shyanne Waller led the offense with four hits and a run scored.
Hope Epps defense was on point again as she made a multitude of incredible catches in centerfield. Epps went two-for-four at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
Madyson Coe had a pair of doubles as she was three-for-six at the plate with an RBI.
Briana Neal also had a multi-hit day as she was two-for-five with a run scored.
SAINT LEO 3, ADELPHI 0
- Epps has shown great range in centerfield all season long and that continued on Wednesday as she made a running catch and crashed into the wall to make the second out in the first inning.
- The Lions threatened in the second inning loading the bases with one out but the Panthers got back-to-back swinging strikeouts to end the threat.
- Saint Leo played small ball in the bottom of the fourth inning successfully laying down three bunts and stealing five bases including two of home. Briana Neal and Shyanne Waller both stole home to put the Lions up 2-0 and Epps scored on a Sydney Cline sac fly to left field for a 3-0 Lions lead.
- Adelphi saw its second runner of the game reach third in the sixth inning on a double steal as the batter struck out. Thomas ended the inning with her second strikeout of the inning.
- Thomas pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to complete the seven-inning shutout for her seventh win of the season.
ADELPHI 5, SAINT LEO 2
- Madyson Coe hit an RBI double in the first inning to score Alexis Barber to give the Lions a 1-0 first inning lead in the second game.
- Adelphi's Courtney Murphy responded with a two-RBI triple to center to give the visitors a 2-1 lead I the second inning.
- The Panthers added two more runs in the third inning with a two-RBI double to left center putting them up 4-1.
- An RBI sac fly in the sixth inning scored a Panthers pinch runner for a 5-1 lead.
- Hope Epps scored pinch runner Grace Dunsworth on a base hit to left field for the second Lions run.

Saint Leo hits the road this weekend as it makes the drive to Daytona Beach for a three-game SSC series at Embry-Riddle (March 23-24). First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
