SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 19th-ranked Saint Leo baseball team completed the series sweep of Barry in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) after winning both games of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Thomas B. Southard Stadium. The Lions won Game 1 by a 4-1 margin before securing a 17-2 victory in Game 2.
Game One; #19 Saint Leo 4, Barry 1
In the first inning of game one, the Buccaneers were able to get on the board first after an RBI-double to left center. The Green and Gold countered as junior Callen Moss drove in graduate student
Buck Anderson off a single to left field, 1-1. Saint Leo claimed a 2-1 edge in the third inning as senior
Josh Davis launched a sacrifice-fly to center field, bringing sophomore
Dylan Mass across home plate. Later on in the fourth, senior
Caleb Adams gave the Lions a 3-1 cushion on sacrifice-fly to left field, batting-in graduate student
Yazael Nunez. The Green and Gold added to its advantage in the seventh as graduate student
Luke Houin fired an RBI-single to drive in Davis, 4-1.
On the mound, senior
Luke Lashutka earned the win as he improves to 5-0 on the season as he struck out five batters and allowed one run on just six hits. Lashutka tallied his first career complete game while throwing 108 pitches.
#19 Saint Leo 17, Barry 2 (7 inn.)
After scoring five runs in the second inning, highlighted by senior
Cooper Miles blasting a solo home run followed by Mass recording a two-run triple to right center, the Lions added five more runs in the third as they led by a 10-0 margin. Davis went yard to kickoff a six-run inning for Saint Leo in the fourth as it grasped a commanding 16-0. In the sixth, Miles walked with the bases loaded to stretch the Green and Gold edge to 17-0. In the seventh, Barry scored a pair of runs with on a two-run homer to left center.
Senior
Aedan Walter started on the hill for the Lions in game two and collected the win as he posted six strikeouts while only allowing two hits and holding Barry scoreless in 5.0 innings of work.
Anderson went a combined 4-for-7 at the dish today with an RBI. Mass recorded a trio of RBI in game two with two hits and one run scored. Junior
Nick Yedman went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Adams finished game two with a pair of hits and a run scored. Davis registered two RBI and scored three runs.
Saint Leo returns to the field on Thursday, March 7, as it hosts Kentucky Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
